Riot grrrl band Bikini Kill has recently released their previously unreleased song “Playground” via a reissue of their iconic tape Revolution Girl Style Now.
Revolution Girl Style Now was originally released way back in May 1991, featuring famous songs like “Double Dare Ya” and “Suck My Left One.” Now, Bikini Kill is set to reissue the tape on Sept. 22.
With the reissue of the tape-turned-CD comes three unreleased tracks, including “Playground,” which the band premiered with Rolling Stone.
“Playground” has a different sound compared to the rest of the Revolution Girl Style Now track list. The song’s grunge sound goes against the typical anthemic feeling of other Bikini Kill hits, from the heavy bass to the hardcore breakdown, according to A.V. Club.
However, “Playground” does stay consistent with classic Bikini Kill vibes despite the difference in sound. The track, which still features a strong, feminine theme, will definitely seem familiar to fans of the band.
And, to get even more grunge, the track stops cold because the original recording ran out of tape.
